Moveon.org. the Democratic hacks are in a panic. They are telling their members that George Bush's 11 point bump is less than 1 point. Moveon.org is in a mad scramble to raise more money. It looks like their communist benefactor George Soros is backing out. Call Tony Cottrell and ask him why his buddies need more money..
"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." - President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998
"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." - President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998
Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face." - Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998
"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten time since 1983." - Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb 18,1998
"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the US Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." - Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin (D-MI), Tom Daschle (D-SD), John Kerry (D - MA), and others Oct. 9,1998
"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." - Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998
"Hussein has chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." >- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999
"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has invigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." - Letter to President Bush, Signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL,) and others, December 5, 2001
"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandated of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them." - Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002
"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002
"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..." - Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002
"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force-- if necessary-- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9,2002
"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years .. We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002
"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do" - Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002
"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members.. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." - Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002
"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002
"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation .. And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction .. So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real" - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003
SO NOW EVERY ONE OF THESE SAME DEMOCRATS SAY PRESIDENT BUSH LIED--THAT THERE NEVER WERE ANY WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION AND HE TOOK US TO WAR UNNECESSARILY!
Ask Tony Cottrell about how Kerry got his citation for actions that took place in 1969 that was signed by a Secretary of the Navy who was only in office between 1981 and 1987. How did he get a citation from an official who would not be in office for twelve years later. Why didn't Kerry get his Honorable discharge until March 12, 2001, when it should have ended in 1972??? Who made the request? Why was it issued then? Even though Kerry signed up for six years plus 6 months. Then signed on as Officer Candidate contract for 6 years - 5 years of active duty. Yet He asked for early release in November 1969. Only three years and ten months. A lot less than George Bush's five years of service. Where are Kerry's "Performance Records" for his two years of ready reserve duty. He would have had to meet for 48 required drills. Was Kerry AWOL?
While as a NAVAL OFFICER, he attended war rallies where the enemy flag was displayed and the AMERICAN flag was desecrated, defiled, and mocked. He was present in a meeting of anti-war protesters voting on "Assassinating members of the U.S. Senate. Kerry met with the Viet-Cong communist leaders in direct violation of his oath of a Naval officer. But, if they will vote for a draft dodger that went to Europe and protested against our Country, they might as well elect another one.

Find last years water bills and compare them today. Councilman Sam Henderson said no one will notice the miniscule 10%.
August 25, 2004
There was a council meeting just awhile back where citizens filled the council chambers in protest of the Mayor and Council's decision to tear down the old city hall. After Councilman Sam Viciously attacked Alice Fish and Glenn Shroeder and after Lannie Heintz browbeat and made fun of Russell Heindselman, the Council voted "TO Put The Old City Hall up for Bids".
At the last Monday Council meeting, the Mayor and City Council seemed to have forgotten their agreement to put the old City Hall up for bids and are now putting up for bids to put a double garage door in the building to park police cars. This is after the Mayor and Council radically stated they wanted rid of the building. They even talked about how little it would cost to clean up the mold that several council meetings ago was going to cost millions. Well, thousands and thousands.
Whereas the Mayor and Council can't make up their minds, they can spend he money. A few months ago the Council, under the direction of Councilman Sam Henderson, voted to spend several thousand dollars to put electrical outlets in the City Park. This last Council meeting Councilman Henderson made the motion to spend another couple thousand to tear out all the new wiring and put in newer wiring. Oh, and since they will be doing that, they might as well add a couple - three more water fountains.
The Mayor and Council discussed why there weren't any lights on at the park at night and the Mayor said the Cops wouldn't turn them on or off as directed.
The Council voted to screw the people of La Grange by not lowering the tax rate as promised. NOT ONE COUNCILMAN spoke up for the people of La Grange. Screw the people and spend the money.
The attorney for the casino appeared before the council and said the new owners wanted to open up the used to be Oyster Park for a soccer field for the kids. They are to spruce up the casino appearance and add more slots. They also are looking to add a convention center on the West side and later use the old Oyster park for a hotel and restaurant.
The attorney talked about changes in the contract with the city and the new city attorney nodded his head liked he knew what they were talking about. The new city administrator forgot to put a copy of the fax in the councilmen's packets and had to go back and make copies while they waited.
Council Sam Henderson was complaining about his monument flag poles in the park and the council voted a few council meetings ago to make anyone who does any work for the city to have insurance. Then at the last council meeting allowed the fire department have a so called computer guru try to fix the fire departments computer with being insured or bonded. BUT, when the Council opened a bid to clean seal and polish the new police station floor, Councilman Sam Henderson demanded the bidder to have insurance. The couldn't do much damage to a floor, but someone screwing up a computer could cost a lot. But, the councilman has his priorities.
Then the Council had the audacity to pass and ordinance regarding "conflict of interest". You really have to have a good laugh on that one.
AND, The Officers of the new La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce is still going to sell the ball park to they city without a vote of the members of the Chamber.

Happenings around town
Dottie Tonnies notified everyone that there was going to be a birthday party for MT, his 70th. The party was to be at the Casino 777 club at 5-m Sunday afternoon. BUT, an hour before the party was to begin, Dottie shoved MT into an ambulance and sent him the Hannibal Hospital and everyone at the party missed MT. The news this morning was that he was a quart lw on blood and today he is as cranky as ever.
Now, here are some watering pictures for you to see.

This is water pouring out of the concrete at the stop light downtown. It has been doing this for a couple of days.

This is water pouring out of the concrete in the highway at the Lions Club. It has been doing this for weeks now.
This is the old mineral well, there is almost no water coming out of it. But,
the city is getting ready after all spring and summer to put in the sidewalk to
the well.
There are also several new leaks in the new water line on Route C and one on South street and who knows where else.
There is a council meeting tonight. And the new Flag committee is having a meeting the third Sunday of each month at 7pm somewhere.
If you drive around town, you will notice that the roads have changed color on North 4th street behind the old Imperial gas station and on 7th street from the Lutheran church South. The reason I said they changed color as that is all that has happened. The City crew used a $100,000 plus, (well, when it was new) to PAVE these streets. Only the City crew could find a way to make the paver lay down asphalt 1/4 inch thick and still leave the potholes. Take a ride down these streets and you can feel the potholes.
I noticed that the LAPD still cannot bring themselves to stop trespassing on private property to run radar. They sit in the car with the air conditioning on while running radar all the while the heat under the car is burning the grass. Thanks to the LAPD.
Comments were made today at the Casino about that since the City took back the property south of Sewer Plant, the weeds are growing great. The City made sure the Casino cut the grass weekly, but the City won't do it itself.
The mayor and council wants everyone in town to make their property look nice and even takes them to court if they don't do as the council says, YET, when you drive into or out of town North of the old Imperial Gas Station it looks like an old barn lot on the East side of the road. The City never wants to take care of its own first impression, just make sure everyone else does.

In an ever changing world it's a comfort to see that the cops of LaGrange remain the imbeciles that everyone knows them to be. If a death occurs in a police chase in LaGrange, will the police chief give a video showing torn-off limbs and twitching guts and death throes to relatives as a nice sentimental souvenir. Something to watch in a family gathering, then put in the casket. The world wonders about LaGrange--it really does!
We are not yet residence of LaGrange, but we do enjoy your writings.
Keep it up!
From the sounds of things I would say the LAPD needs some "Dukes of Hazard" to occupy themselves with.
I am writing in response to the high speed chase that took place in Lagrange on July 24th. It is to my knowledge that an officer cannot pursue a high speed chase for a minor traffic violation, only if the person has committed a felony or caused bodily harm to someone. In this case I was told the person did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Was this worth putting the officers, innocent civilians, and the life of this 16 year old in danger? I don't think so. I would also like to know if the Lagrange police are so hard up for money that they have to go to the hospital at 10:30 in the evening to issue tickets to a 16 year old that has suffered a traumatic brain injury on top of everything else. Thank goodness the doctors and nurses at Blessing hospital have THEIR priorities straight! One last thing.....to the officer that caught this high speed chase on video, you can't judge a person because of tattoos or body piercing and I do not believe it is proper to show the video of the chase to relatives of the injured person.

MAYOR OF CANTON RESIGNS
CANTON POLICE CHIEF RESIGNS
CANTON POLICE OFFICER RESIGNS
Now just tell me this.... Why does Canton have all the luck? Why is it that La Grange gets the casino and Canton gets all the new businesses? And now Canton gets the Mayor to resign and the police chief to resign and an officer to resign and we can't get rid of officers. I think La Grange needs to start cutting pay and benefits and maybe we can get some officers to resign.
Maybe, just maybe, if the Council would rescind their motion to PAY THEMSELVES TWICE for the same meetings and triple to quadruple their money, some of them would resign. The Mayor's green sheet shows all the bills paid but, conveniently left out what the Mayor and the Council got paid.
There is a new FLAG Committee of which Pat Livingston and Evelyn Evans are heading up. They are trying to find all the veterans in all the La Grange Cemeteries so flags can be placed on their graves.
The City Administrator had his letter in the greensheet slowly letting you know your water and sewer rates are going to be higher with his grants. he also mentioned paving around to the mineral well that is slowly getting smaller to a trickle.
The Council voted last month NOT to Pay for Scotty potties for the boat races as the races were NOT City sanctioned. Mike Lowe voted against the potties as in his mind, they would be donating them to an organization. Wait til he asks for something for MADD though, then his mind will change.
How can the Council expect anything to get done when they allow an employee who doesn't want to do something go whining to a councilman or more then one councilman until he finds his momma to say he doesn't have to do his work. PLEASE, momma Rita, don't make me do that work.
The City Council voted to go into CLOSED SESSION to talk about computer virus protection. Isn't that a crock??
The police chief is so worried that reducing the number of police cars would be a hardship. Good heavens, just what would all those police officers do if one broke down and they had to do with only TWO police cars? And the City Administrator said that reducing the FLEET of cars would worry HIM financially. HUH?
Now the City is still going to work on Jason's trail again. A PRIVATE STREET. Maybe they will come up to my place and work on my driveway too. How about the city doing everyone's driveways. If they are doing the work to BENEFIT Jenny Murphy and Ralph Martin, then why not everyone in town??
The Fire department is having problems with their computer again. They will travel to Florida to find someone to fix it other than the only one in town who has been doing it for 20 years.
For some reason they published the paid bills this time. Now everyone in town knows that the City sends someone to Wal-Mart to buy a bottle of Lysol and some batteries available here in town.
August 15, 2004
I got this email today and laughed and laughed and laughed...
WHY DOESN'T THE CITY OF LAGRANGE JUST PAY ALL THE SURPLUS $$$ COLLECTED TO THE PEOPLE? HECK...PAY PEOPLE $2,000/YEAR TO LIVE THERE...AND EVERYONE WILL WANT TO MOVE THERE. IT WOULD BOOST REAL ESTATE VALUES 10X IF YOU DON'T WANT TO RUN FOR MAYOR...FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL AND ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS OFFER TO PAY PEOPLE TO LIVE THERE.
Now you can laugh too..
Little does the emailer know that this City Council and especially Sam Henderson and Lannie Heintz only spend money, a lot of of money on monuments to themselves. They will gloat for years on how much they spent in the City parks and on the two blocks of 5th street and the glorious police station fleecing of the people of La Grange. Look at all your utility bills and see the 5% tax from the City, look at your new water bills with the 10% rate hike, and look that there isn't a 25% decrease in your taxes that was promised. Call or stop by Councilman Sam Henderson, or Lannie Hientz, or Elaine White and thank them for all they have done for you.
August 14, 2004
It has never failed yet. When the Lions club has there fish frys. The Youth Center has an event. The City has Appreciation Days. And now when the City has a City wide yard sale. Each and every time there is some organization working to try to have a fund raiser or have a City function for the people, the LAPD gets out their radar gun and teaches the people who dare to come to La Grange a lesson. The LAPD has ran radar all day long during the City wide yard sale catching them right and left. They just want to make sure no one comes to La Grange to benefit anyone. When will the Mayor and City Council learn?
August 10, 2004
I had an email from a reader wanting to know why there hasn't been anything on the net about the LAPD. I started to say that the LAPD has been quiet and not been bothering anyone. But then before I can say anything good I get emails.
Well, I guess the legal system is at work. It took to two city patrol cars and three officers to pull my daughter over the night of July the 28th. My daughter who I will not name is a corrections officer for the Adams County Juvenile Detention Center, and was on her way to work. By the way the show of force was in response to a malfunctioning tail light. Don't you feel safer.
Recently a friend and myself where sitting at the shelter house at the river front watching the deer across the river on the island. A beautiful sun set, wonderful weather, and not bothering anyone. Seems like the river front is all we have left to enjoy in this town. Keep in mind there are several people in this town who like to sit down there, visit with friends and enjoy the river. One of our fabulous LAPD officers stopped, in which we thought to say Hi. Not the case. All he said was (No open containers are allowed.) CITY ORDINANCE. He did not ask what was in our open container nor did he specify if this pertained to (alcohol beverages only) or any open containers. Do you know if this is true. No other LAPD officer has said a word about us being down there before, and they drive by all the time.
And then Tuesday evening the knocked down cop seems to be taking out his frustrations out on everyone who happens to drive through town. Every one in town keeps asking why there are two and three and more cops on during the day and only one at night. It would seem that if you have to have so many on duty at one time to get their 40 hours in, that there too many to begin with. The high cost of maintaining this large police force is running over $600,000.00 per year. That is more than Canton and Palmyra combined. When is the City Council going to wake up?
August 8, 2004
St. Charles Missouri is hiring a new City Administrator. La Grange just hired a new City Administrator. What is the difference? The difference is that the City Council of St. Charles is doing a COMPLETE background check including finances of their new City Administrator. Why? What does anyone know about our new City Administrator? Nothing has been put out by the City except he came from Ireland?? Who knows for sure?
August 8, 2004
I read the St. Louis paper daily and St. Louis as well as many other cities across the nation are taking action to stop high speed chases of teenagers who break other minor traffic laws. So far this year 9 teenagers have been killed in St. Louis alone. Which brings me to the reason for this insertion.
Not too long ago a local teenage girl was being chased down the highway from Canton and then through La Grange by several police cars. It ended with the car leaving the road and crashing South of La Grange and the girl severely injured. The police justify the chases with the thought that they don't know whether the driver is an escaped felon or murdered or whatever and they "need" to chase the teenager to "prevent and accident".
In this case the teenager didn't die in the accident but the teenager did receive a critically severe head injury that may destroy her future. The question that the police need to ask themselves, Is the fun of the chase to drive a teenager to high speeds that end up in critical injuries and death a good reason for the chase? Is the fact that the girl's life is now ruined, a feather in the officer's cap?
It used to be the policy of the City of La Grange that any and all chases end at the City limits. That is, unless the officer can assure the Mayor and Council that the person has caused great bodily harm to someone or committed a felony. Any time a car runs from an officer because of speeding or not stopping correctly or other minor traffic offense, the rule was to stop at the city limits. The officer by that time has the license number and can wait till the car comes back and then make the arrest.
Hundreds of teenagers are dying each year because of high speed chases. Needless deaths and critical injuries that need not happen. These need to stop here in La Grange like the other major cities that are doing so.

There is a big article in the Quincy rag, you know, the one that didn't have any notices at all for the boat races, about the survey that the City of La Grange has sent out. The NEW City Administrator wants to raise the water and sewer rates to get the grant. So, what does this mean to the people of La Grange? In order to get a small grant, you will pay more forever. The NEW City Administrator didn't tell how high he planned to make the new water and sewer rates. But, I am sure that he will raise the rates to whatever he has to do say "Look at what I did, I got a grant". I am worth the $47,500.00 per year.
I think it is about time the Mayor stepped up to the plate and start thinking about the people of La Grange. Tell Councilman Henderson that for every dollar the City Administrator wants to raise the water and sewer rates, the Council needs to knock .10 cents off the tax rate. Or, make it percentages, a 10 percent water hike gets a 10 percent tax reduction. A .10 percent sewer hike gets a .10 percent tax reduction. It is not fair to the people of La Grange to have a million and a half dollar a year income from the casino and have the Mayor and City Council spend it faster than it is coming in and make the people of La Grange pay more.
August 5, 2004
I received a Survey sheet from the City of La Grange. The first questions is the number of families living in the house. Any unrelated person is considered another family. Then they want the total number of persons living in the house. The next is the question of how many persons are in each family. It leaves space to enter a number for each of three families. So, I am guessing that there aren't any houses with four or more different people living in it. It goes next to ask the total family income of each family living in one house. The questionnaire now limits the number of families to two, where above the limit was three.
3A. Asks you to check the number closest to each family's income. 3B. Asks the same question, only in a different way of how much income each family receives, only now the questionnaire limits the family to one.
4: Asks "How many heads of households" at this address. Under six, handicapped, or over 62.
5: Asks if any are Hispanic or Latino and then how many are not Hispanic or Latino.
6: Asks how many are Indian or Alaska Native or Asian or Black or Hawaiian or white or "Other"
Seems pretty much asking more the nationality rather than income for determination. But, with the low figures on the income limits, it looks like it will be out of limit.
You should note the number in red ink. That must be an identifier number of some sort. If you want to be sure that your answers are completely anonymous, you might want to cut the number off.
Whereas this survey is designed to get a whole picture look at the economical census of the City to be able to look at getting some grant help to do some of the work needed in the city, it is in the best interest of all people who received one to fill it out and send it back. It is assumed that this is to contest the 2000 census results on the income of the city as a whole and it is designed to see if there is a low enough income bracket for grants, you should not want to inflate your income.

Jerry, I have a comment on voting rules. I have lived in La Grange 25 years and have always voted. When I went to vote I knew all the people at the table. I didn't take in my identification and was told I had to have it to vote. No Problem. Rules are rules and I don't have a problem following them. I went to my vehicle got my driver's license and voter's registration card. Went back in, got back in line only to hear the person in front of me say they didn't bring their I.D. Nothing was said and they handed them a ballot. Different rules for different people, Or wrong last name?
August 3, 2004
I took pictures and a video of the races last weekend. I have for sale a video tape of Saturdays races and a picture of Sundays race or I also have a dvd of Saturdays races and a floppy disk of Sundays race.
I received a lot of emails regarding the races and only two were really positive and only of Saturdays races.
One of the vendors was wanting to stay set up for a week or so to provide people downtown La Grange a place to get something to eat for breakfast and lunch and maybe supper. The vendor asked the City administrator about staying there and paying the city for the electricity that was used.
Rumor is that the vendor says that the new city administrator told him that this was a very difficult decision for him to make on his own and that the vendor needed to go to a council meeting and ask them. Well, so much for a new business in town.
I recently have been told that the officers of the Chamber of Commerce held a secret meeting and chose themselves to be the new officers for next year. They will be asking for your dues for the next year too. Just don't plan to attend any meetings or expect to be notified of any meetings. Rumor has it that after the dues have been collected, the new officer will have their own dinner meeting. Rumor has it that the new officers will vote by themselves to sell the ball park to the city and will notify the other members at a later date. Maybe next year.

Everyone should stop by the Harold Ludwig's ice cream shop, buy an ice cream cone and thank Harold for bringing the boat races back to La Grange again.
Other thanks have to go to the La Grange Police Department for swift action they took Saturday morning regarding a drunken flasher that came on the beach area where children were. And also thank them for patrolling the area without harassing anyone.
And, one more thanks has to go to Marvin Eisenbeis. We found him Early, Sunday morning in his own truck emptying the City garbage cans that were in the racers area and around the beach area. He was up and going before I got up, and I get up early.
And, thanks can go (reluctantly) to the City for preparing the area for the races. They reluctantly provided 3 electrical places on one pole so the vendors were crowded up. And they reluctantly cleaned up for the grandstand area.
And, we all want to thank the racers for the racing they did Saturday. And, we hope that Harold Ludwig can carry this idea forward and work for another race next year and maybe more races next year.
AND NOW, the bad news.
1: The advertisement for the races was shameful. The Quincy Rag and TV and Radio stations continue to slight the small towns like La Grange. They did not do anything in the way of news reports to notify the public of the boat races in La Grange, UNLESS, someone PAID them for the news.
2: The chickenshit UNITED STATES COAST GUARD (little girlie men) calling off the races Sunday because of a little wave action on the river. When the Dickerson's put on a race, the racers went out and put on a show, even in waves twice the size we saw today on the river. The blame for the calling of the races today can also be placed on the chicken racers.
3: This can be taken as bad news or good news. The Mayor refused to show, as well as 5 of the six councilmen. So much for supporting the town.
