ELMER LOGAN  November 21, 1924 - January 2, 2002

Mr. La Grange will be missed by everyone in town.

January 4, 2002

Elmer Logan's visitation will be tonight and the funeral will be tomorrow at 2pm at the Church.

I don't know if any of you remember the Dillon boys that used to live here several years ago. Several years ago they were towboat Captains. There were Don and Bob and Bill and they had a sister Pat. The PNJ shows that Bob Dillon died last month.

And then, if you are old enough to remember "doc" Herrick. He used to live in the brown shingled home East of the City park. The PNJ shows that Doris Herrick died Jan 1, 2002. La Grange seems to be losing more than it share of past and present citizens.

January 3, 2002

We start off the new year with sorrow with the passing of Elmer Lee Logan last evening.
Elmer since his retirement has been the main stay of the town, the Community and the County.
He will be missed by an awful lot of people down town.

The La Grange Community Youth Center had its dedication today at 4pm. The place was packed with people. It is times like this that show you that good things can get done with cooperation. Betty Bronstine told about how it began, how it works and how so many people and companies donating time, money and materials to make it happen and to do so with out any debt.. Here is one picture I took of some of the people there. click here. State Representatives showed up to give their support as well as almost all the Councilmen. The Mayor showed up too, but I am not sure why. For someone who was and has been against the Youth Center since 1993, it was difficult to understand why he showed. But, given that a few people talked to him, I guess he felt he was supposed to be there.

There are a lot of good citizens in La Grange who want to see the town prosper and to see it be a good place to live. The Youth Center clearly shows that, and it is a real shame that the Mayor can't see it, and involve these people in the running of the City. There is a wealth of knowledge to draw on. There is a wealth of human resources to use. One wonders why a person elected to be Mayor or Council feels that only he, is intelligent enough to make the City's decision. Why can't the Mayor see this? Why can't the Council have each committee ask 3 or more people who that have expertise in that field attend their meetings and help them make decisions? In some Cities like St. Charles, the City Council puts their critics on the committees with them.

The Youth Center has shown that a whole lot can be done by working together.
Congratulations Betty!!!!!!!

From visiting around town and the restaurants, it looks like it was a very good Christmas for everyone. The Casino is reporting that over $700,000.00 has been won since the opening. The paper has that it is now time to sign up for City Councilman. The last date is January 18th to sign up.

If you have came back from Quincy lately, you should have noticed new State signs up with the Mark Twain Casino logo on them. One near Ramsey Jones and one on the off ramp. It looks like our greatest Mayor ever and our Canton resident LaGrange Chamber president went to sleep on this one. One wonders why these new signs don't have words like GAS - FOOD on them. If the Canton resident President of the La Grange Chamber of Commerce and the greatest Mayor ever were on the ball, these new signs would have them on there. But, you get what you elect 184 voters. You have to be "tickled to death" with your Mayor. With the businesses in town dying from lack of business, you would think these people would try to do something to promote the town. The gamblers just come in from the South and leave the same way. Only one of 100 ever come into town. Most know better as they don't want to get arrested or stopped and hassled.

Today, on the way to town, I was coming toward the old Imperial gas station when a car came from the South and around the corner toward me at a high rate of speed. I only had a small amount of time to see that is was driven by a long dark haired woman and the car had police lights in the front windshield and police antennas on the back, yet the woman wasn't in a police uniform. Then when leaving the gas station, this same woman came down the hill and around the corner heading South on Main Street. Whoever it was, she was in an awful hurry to violate so many traffic laws.

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS

We had breakfast at the Casino this morning. The food was very good. I did notice that over 60 people came in while I was there. Even three councilmen showed up. This is a great improvement over last Mondays breakfast.

December 23, 2001
Don't forget, Monday morning the Casino restaurant has its $1.99 breakfast buffet.

We went to St Louis to our sons place for a Christmas get together. In two of our six stops to businesses there, we ran into two people we knew. Small world. Spent the night and came back today. The highways seem to be well patrolled. One speeder went by us on the way home below Troy. When we stopped at Chums, the patrol was giving him a ticket.

Rumor has it that only a few employees gave up $5.00 to buy the Mayor his xmas present. What was it he got, a bunch of tokens for the slots?? What happened that the fire chief wasn't at the party? How come none of the firemen donated? Rumor has it that the Mayor got some of the City employees small gifts, but didn't use any of his money.

What is wrong with the City water? Why are the clothes getting all those little gray spots that won't come out? Is the water super falling down on the job? What are those guys from Rolla doing with the water?

There is a rumor about an officer getting a six week paid suspension while a city employee is being sent to school to learn his job? Then there is the rumor about a person who supported the ex-chief sold a city police two/way radio for cash and a light bar being parked in someone's shed? So much going on and only bits and pieces coming out.

The other day I put on here about two idiots shooting their guns in the City. Today I get an email from the (squirell) hunters.

First of all before running your mouth get all the information please.....if a person has permission to hunt and that property is theirs signed and deeded into their name (than) there is no law in the book that states that they cannot shoot guns there. There was no running away from Mr. Struhan because the ground those idiots were on was owned by the family. FYI it was a brown stocking hat and a brown carhart coat and there was also a navy blue jacket attired with a camo hunting hat wore by 12 year old boy aka "idiot"! Dully noted that officer that investigated thought it was very (commical) that some "idiot" would call in about a older brother taking his younger brother (squirell) hunting. LaGrange better watch out for all those idiots that take younger siblings and go (squirell) hunting on (thier) own property.
Sincerely
"Idiot hunter and his younger brother"
These little youngun's apparently got confused as to where grandma's property lies. For some reason the little hunters got lost down in Ted Sturhaun's woods, quite aways East of Grandma's place. Then the youngun's who don't live in town didn't take the time to read City Ordinance number 31 that makes it illegal to shoot a gun in the City limits and all of grandmas place is in the City limits. Of course, if the youngun's don't know property lines, written laws will become a major problem for them. If the youngun's weren't hiding from Ted, then why did they come around on the East side of the hill away from Ted's truck and take off their caps and peek over the hill at Ted? Why didn't they just march up to Ted's truck and tell him to get off grandma's property? I watched it all happen with field glasses sonny. And, the youngun's lucked out with the police officer. Whereas, all the City hires are "traffic cops", it understandable that the officer was unaware of any other Ordinances and laws of the City regarding shooting a gun in the city limits. One final comment, "Not many (squirell) hunters fire their gun many times in rapid succession at one poor squirrel.

Don't forget, Monday morning the Casino restaurant has its $1.99 breakfast buffet.

December 19, 2001

I heard a rumor at the Post Office today that a police officer was suspended at the police committee meeting last Monday evening. Rumor also has it that this will probably be the last week for the officer. And here I thought that he was coming around ok and going to be a good officer. Rumor has it that another officer is in trouble too.

Rumor has it that the ex-chief has ponied up a couple of dollars and hired an attorney to sue the City. So what, that is what the City is paying that attorney all that money for. And who cares if he loses. The City can just appeal it and hire another better attorney. They can probably drag it out for several years or until the ex-chief goes broke.

A week or so ago I put on about a rumor of an officer investigating gun shots in the City limits. Well, last Monday evening a couple of those idiots were shooting guns just North of the Catholic Church and West of my place. I called Ted Sturhan and he drove back there to see and then I saw the two guys coming around a hill trying to hide from Ted. One wore a brown jacket like a hunting jacket with a bright red stocking hat. The other wore a blue jacket. The police came up to the Marks Cemetery and the idiots saw the police car and ran down the ditch to the brush and hid from them.

Rumor has it that the Mayor is trying to bail out Susie with the LRO and get the City to by the LRO building. A few Councilmen were taken on a tour of the building the other night. Well, since the City has several thousands of dollars already invested in it, the City might as well own it. Then the Mayor will have another place to loaf.

Yesterday was the first day to register to run for Councilman in the three wards. So far all of the Councilmen now have resigned up. So far as I have seen with these three Councilmen, I see no reason for anyone else to run against them. They seem to work together. They seem to not allow differences become hatred. And, they seem to want to do right.

Now, when it comes to hatred, the Mayor tops all billing. Rumor has it that he ahs not only been threatening employees, but lately he has been vicious with the Council. Rumor has it that he is trying to get a couple of cronies to run against these original councilmen to divide the council up again to create more turmoil.

Another rumor has it that since the Mayor couldn't get his monument to himself with the Gazebo in the City Park, he is now working on his monument with the old fire station.

Does any one know what the Mayor did with the good overhead doors from the fire station? You can call Overhead door in Quincy if you want to know??

Here is a big question? Why is the Mayor sending the City Clerk for police department training?? Is this going to be another way to increase her salary again? Why did the Mayor go around the chain of command to do this?? Why does the Mayor insist on the employees donate to his Christmas?

So much secrecy. So much behind the back of the Council. So much vengeance.  So much sneaking around. Is this really the kind of Mayor the people of La Grange wants??

The La Grange Community Youth Center will have the dedication of the New Building on Sunday, December 30th at 4pm. There will be a reception after the ceremony. If you plan to attend, Please RSVP to Betty or call her at 573-655-4587 or email to bbrone90@hotmail.com. sorry betty

It looks like the foundry is adding new equipment and a huge tank. Saturday, there was a huge crane going through town that was big enough to pick up a house.

December 13, 2001

Things seem to be going right in La Grange. Here is a letter from the manager of the Casino. You have to admit that these people are right there on the spot for La Grange.

Dear Betty,
Please accept this check in the amount of $602.00 for the benefit of the La Grange Youth Center.  As we've discussed on several occasions, children are the foundation of our future and we must make sure they have the tools necessary to be successful.  All of your hard work and dedication is admirable and the Mark Twain Casino wishes you nothing but success
as you move forward with the opening of the Center. Furthermore, we are looking forward to helping again with another benefit in early January. Additionally, if at any time you need volunteers to help with the Center we are just a phone call
away. Please let us know if we can help in future endeavors.
Sincerely
 Kevin Preston
General Manager.

You can't get any better than this. According to Betty, who was there all the time, there was not only tremendous support from the people, but the crew at the Casino were also very supportive. Everyone said how good their meals were.  I also heard that the menu is going to get even better.  Betty also learned that they have carry-outs, and there are specials almost every night. It was fun.

Work at the youth center is continuing.  The floors are being cleaned and prepared for tile, and carpeting.  Anyone that has some extra time, please come and help us.

There are a lot of people still questioning the tearing down of the Old Fire Station. CLICK HERE Why, of al things was this a rush rush deal with the Mayor. Other questions are cropping up about those good insulated overhead doors. It s rumored that at first the Mayor said to just crush then and put them in the landfill. Then others wanted the doors and he changed to putting them up for bids. Now, the rumor is that he got mad and gave them to Overhead door in Quincy. What kind of a City Council lets crap like this happen? And the Mayor wonders why the people want the City audited.

According to the PNJ, the Council voted to demote Shawn Hydorn. That was a good idea, but they have a worse problem with another one. The PNJ also reported about all the money the City has been banking. There has still been no talk about letting the people of La Grange benefit from all this money. It seems that now the City will want to play God with the money.

I am still ready to clean the snow at the Casino with my new snow plow, CLICK HERE if the server will bring it up.

December 12, 2001

WOW! We went to Quincy yesterday and came back about 7 and 25 people either called or sent emails that the lagrangemo web site was HACKED. It looks like some pakistani hacker wanted to make a statement about the terrible plight of the Afgani women. It read like it was the US at fault. Evidently the hacker has not been informed that the US is there freeing the women from the Taliban's horrible treatment. Anyhow, I just put it back up. I contacted the server people and they reported that last week their whole system was hacked and taken done for almost a day and this hack was posted on many of their customers sites like this one. Who would have thought that this site would attract national attention.

December 11, 2001

Well, rumor as it that the two guys who have been going to Quincy to see the girls are now grounded. I heard this morning that Elmer Logan has been taken to the Lewis County Nursing home "just for a visit", and his sidekick Glenn Rohs has gone home with his son.

These past few weeks have been hard on La Grange, it used to be said that death in a town come in threes. La Grange has now had that come twice. It is very hard on us who have known these people all our lives.

A rumor in town this morning about our local protectors is that an officer was called last week about someone shooting a gun in town. The officer was called to investigate and found the guy shooting the gun here in town. The officer let the shooter go as the shooter said he was hunting squirrels on his own property. Someone said well, you got to know that the shooter wasn't driving a car drunk or was caught speeding with a radar gun, so what can you expect?

December 10, 2001

Elmer Logan should get out of the hospital today from the car accident in Quincy last week. A visitor who visited him yesterday says he is still as ornery as ever.

Rumors won't ever quit. There is this rumor that a LAPD finest went to Canton to wash his police car and locked the keys in with the motor running. Other City employees are glad that the police go to Canton to wash the cars as the other employees are left to clean up the piles of mud left. Piles of mud, where are these guys driving to find all that mud??

Here is a question. If you buy something, let's say a motorcycle, from someone and you agree to make payments in on it - can you just go and apply for a lost title and then sell to someone else without paying for it first?

December 8, 2001

In a report from the master of the Youth Center. I am told that it was a real good money maker. Santa arrived on time, there were a whole lot of kids. The college kids had them all playing games to win prizes. They brought a whole lot of toys. More toys than there were kids. The Chamber of Commerce took pictures of the kids sitting on Santa's lap. Some did, some wouldn't, some were small, and some were big. Then a few mama's got their picture taken with Santa.

No one complained about the soup supper at all. I was surprised that I didn't see any Casino people there though. Only two Councilmen and a Mayor didn't show. He wasn't very busy, I drove by and saw him watching tv.

Now, to the police department. I was very glad to see several police officers show up. Not all of them, but enough to make a showing to the people. Mr. Dixon was very well at talking to the people and Mrs. Dixon, his mother showed up too. If I was the Mayor I would have liked to see more officers attend, if nothing else to meet people and get themselves known. But, at least 184 voters are tickled to death.

DON'T FORGET SANTA AND FOOD TOMORROW  Lions Hall

December 7th, A day that will live in infamy. Fewer and fewer people are remembering this day.

I received an e-mail from a COP lover chastising me about the info below. So, I will go one farther.

Today, and almost every morning, I stop at Arnold's and get the ST. Louis paper. And as usual, we see the police come down the hill and head South. I guess to the Casino for coffee. Today, a grain hauler 18 wheeler as usual, came down Main Street from the North and came around the corner to go to the elevator. I usually park on the side of the Street on the North side of the station. Had I done that today instead of getting gas, my truck would have been pushed to the river. With no intention at all to stop, he came around the corner so fast his front wheels were sliding. This happened just one minute after the police car came down the hill and went South.

These truckers know that the City's finest use radar at the City limits and also know that there are no cops smart enough to just stay parked at City hall in the mornings and watch the stop light for their high-speed, no-stop turns.

Here is a watch for you. The Mayor has ordered that the like new furnace be removed from the old fire station and be stored at the new City shed. Watch to see how long this furnace stays there before it disappears. Does the Councilmen have any idea to all as to what this Mayor is doing?? What about those real nice insulated overhead doors? Rumor has it that the Mayor said to at first want to tear the doors down and then next to auction them and now to what????

December 6, 2001

In regards to the terrible rumor that "pave my drive free" and "no prayer here" running again for councilmen, a new one is that "MADD" is planning to join them again. Rumor also says that a Councilman in the North ward and a Mayor are trying real hard to get them on the ballot. Meetings all over the place. So much for La Grange getting going again.

While cleaning brush today on my side of the fence by the Cemetery a COP drove by. I could tell it was a COP ad not a police officer as he drove by staring and didn't stop to come over to say hi or see what I was doing. You know, much like they refuse to go into any business in town and make friends.

I got several emails from people wanting to know WHY the Mayor is in such a hurry to tear down the old fire station. It is becoming an obsession that this be done immediately.

AND, Master Ed Weathers has now got his CDL license. Boy, that will piss off the Mayor. He thought Ed wouldn't pass it and he would be able to fire him. NOW, the Street Super and Water helper now have to get their CDL licenses. Does this hold true for all the firemen??

Rumor has it that not all City employees have opted to give $5.00 to suck up to the Mayor and the girls are rumored not to be happy. You know, the ladies of the summer.

December 5, 2001

I just received a most terrible rumor. The email suggested that "Pave my drive free" and "no prayer here" are going to sign up for Councilmen and run the City again. Just when we thought we only had two more to go, this has to come up. Will we have to start all over again?

DECEMBER 4, 2001

Well, the old Mayor is back. Well, you can tell by last nights police committee meeting. It seems the committee was notified that there was a pcm and notices "FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY" were sent to the remaining three councilmen. ALL the councilmen attended the meeting as the Mayor put on the notice of the PCM that "the committee may discuss ANY OTHER city business, including hiring and firing." If there is any way to be sneaky and underhanded, the Mayor will find it. Including going behind the Mayor Pro-Tem while he was in office.

Did you know that City employees are "obligated" to pony up $5.00 each to get the Mayor a Christmas present, and then they are ordered to attend his Christmas party for him??

The City has decided to demolish the old fire station across from the Lions Hall. You can see where they have been digging all over the place looking for the water line. The Mayor hasn't decided whether to go ahead and demolish those huge, real nice garage doors. But, get this, the City has decided that this would be a nice place for "ANOTHER PARK".

La Grange has been short on open spaces and park area for so long that the Mayor and Council decided we needed another one. Rumor has it that the City MIGHT repair the mineral well. Hopefully, they remove all the other concrete and do it right. Maybe, they would like to allow the La Grange Garden Club HELP make some decisions with them.

Rumor has it that the ex-chief has decided to hire an attorney and sue the City for something. As they say, you can sue anyone for anything. Getting the win is the problem. Sometimes the cop does so many things wrong that suing the City can be real easy and then the C A doesn't see the light.

Some are wondering how Memphis Mo is doing with their new cop, "The Bald Rabbit". He just keeps hopping around all over the country.

Are all the firemen who drive the "fire truck" going to have to get CDL licenses too??? Fair is Fair. Mayor!

Remember - JULY 13, 2001
Steve Johnson, the director of enforcement for the Missouri Gaming Commission says LaGrange can function with five officers, but any number fewer than that would cause some concerns and that he prefers a larger department.

Yet, the Mayor Pro-Tem and City Council hired two more officers to make it now 8. And the Council refuses to put logos on the police cars to make them identifiable by the public and keeps on paying THOUSANDS of dollars to keep the MULES computer that isn't needed. Go figure.

December 3, 2001

I received an interesting email the other day about "the bald rabbit". Remember him? Well, it seems he was hired as a police chief in a town in Iowa. The way the emails read, I suspect that when they tried to do a back ground check, City Hall kept its mouth shut. Anyhow, the rumor is that the bald rabbit, left town in the dark of night. And, the rumor went on that some City stuff was mistakenly taken and many bills were left unpaid. He was supposed to attend a Council meeting to tell all to kiss his cotton, but failed to show. Rumor has it that the rabbit is hopping over to Memphis Mo. A couple of businessmen here in town have several bills they would like to get paid too. Something about a big wedding meal, and rent and utility bills.

I understand that the problem with hiring police officers is complex. First off, the schools refuse to give any bad information on an applicant. Then, any past employer usually, as in many cases here in La Grange, the Mayor and Council "allows" the bad officer to resign, rather than do as I did, "fire them".

Now, this brings up the situation with "Double R". His only choice in the life of law is being able to keep working for La Grange. For him to go anywhere else to get a police officers job and that City looks up the gossip page and see where he is prone to "false arrest" "harassment" "illegal search" "refusing a lawyer" "refusing medical". With a resume like that, who else in the world will hire him. The Council is afraid now to fire him, so he is in limbo.  It looks like the next job is with McDonalds.

As with the emailer above, I and that person intend to follow these rouge officers and make sure that a bug is put in the next places ear.

Robert Roscher should have been immediately fired just like ex chief Mike Baker.

December 2, 2001

In attending the Casino restaurant Friday am for breakfast, I saw several people from La Grange eating out to support the Youth Center. Friday evening, we had supper, and we saw 15 tables with La Grange people eating out to support the Center. Betty is always amazed at all the support the people of La Grange give to the Center. The rest of us aren't. The people of La Grange always support the town. Myself, along with many others are grateful for the interest and support of the Mark Twain Casino for its support.

December 1, 2001

I received an email today from a person who congratulated me for putting on things that were positive toward the City Council. Even though I like the compliment, I have to admit it isn't my fault. People like this one do not understand the fact that 99% of what is posted here comes from the people of La Grange. I just put it up. Yes, I do add my 2 cents worth. And, the people like the way the Mayor pro-tem and the council are working together. They did not like martini and weasel and their tactics. They are not happy about the Mayors attitude and antics. AND, they do no like to be harassed by the cops.

HAVE YOU GOT A VIRUS YET??

Just in time for the holidays, w32.Reeezak.a@mm arrives as an e-mail with "Happy New Year" as the subject line, then attempts to delete your Windows System subdirectory, redirect your Internet Explorer to a political Web site, and disable popular anti-virus software. Another new worm, W32.Gokar.a@mm, also disables anti-virus software (without deleting Windows files). Other recent viral attacks are Goner and BadTrans.B.

Slowly the people around town are finding out that I, Mark Twain Computer can sell computers and computer parts cheaper than Staples, Wal-Mart - K-mart, Dell, Gateway, and any of them. None of these places can sell keyboards, mice, USB cables, Ink Cartridges any where close to what I do. goto OURBUSINESS2U.COM to see our store. Computer supplies, satellite equipment, home appliances, automobile accessories

WARNING

People who by computer printers and copy machines do not know that there is a difference between the front end cost and the back end cost. For instance, A Canon or Lexmark printer is sold at a discount. But, the ink cartridges are sold at rip off prices. An Epson printer cost 10% more, but the ink cartridges are 10% of the cost of Lexmark, Canon or Hewlett Packard. A Sharp copier has two models, the one with a 3 digit number is mass merchandised. (SF760), but you can call Sharp and get free tech support and the toner cartridges are only $9.00. But, a Sharp (SF7350), four digit number, is "Owned" by the local dealer. He now has complete control/ownership of Your copier. And, the toner jumps to $30.00 for the same bottle of toner.

Even though I didn't need it and really wasn't allowed to use it for quite awhile, I had an 800 number lawyer ready to represent me 24 hours a day, at no charge, with prepaid legal services. It is the best "Legal Insurance" anyone can have. Especially here in La Grange where you can stopped for "Nothing".

FOR ONLY $14.95 per month, it is CHEAP compared to the Outrageous Fines levied here in La Grange.
