The Parks and Cemetery Committee met in session on Monday evening, March 13, 2000 at 6:30 pm with Chairperson Burbridge presiding and the following members present Ayers, Wiewel and Mayor Ludwig. Burbridge called the meeting to order and presented a handout to the committee Burbridge stated he had concerns regarding the youths of LaGrange playing basketball on main street at the present site. Burbridge stated he had spoken to several of the youths about placing a basketball court m the City park. Ayers stated they had spoken to JP Logsdon and he has agreed to donate his time on the weekends to help with the concrete work. Burbridge stated the current area in the park has a slab of concrete 60’ in length and 32’ in width. He is proposing installing a 30’ long and 32’ wide court using the existing foundation as support. After discussion it was decided to use 4” deep concrete for a total of 12 yards at $58 due to it having to be delivered on a Saturday. Ayers stated he had spoken to K Powers and the City crew has time at the present to prepare the area. The committee also discussed placing the play ground equipment the City got from the school in the park. There is a merry-go-round, monkey bars and slide. Mayor Ludwig stated someone could talk to Ideal Ready Mix regarding the concrete, because they were going to donate the cement for the gazebo and they might donate some or all of the cement to this project. Ayers stated he thought the total project would cost around $1,000. Ayers stated he had talked to PJ and he had suggested to dig down the full 4” then the cement would float off easier. There would be a need of 30’ section of forms and grade stakes. Discussion was held on getting the back boards left up at the old school because they were also donated. Mayor Ludwig stated he would have to talk to Rich, since there has been since a time lapse. Mayor Ludwig stated something else needed for the park is a new tennis net and he would like to see a couple of swing sets placed at the River front park since families use this area in the summer. The committee decided to make the above recommendations to the full Council at the 03/13/00 meeting. Having no further business before the committee, Ayers motioned to adjourn Wiewel second the motion
