What is the Youth Center???
The La Grange Community Youth Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is a safe, supervised
place for our youth to go after school The Center isn't just a place to hang out, however Kids can
get involved in a number of activities that range from tutoring to life-skills programs Perhaps most
importantly, the Youth Center offers an alternative to the streets It's a place for kids to go where
adult volunteers care
What does the Youth Center offer our youth?
The Youth Center offers free activities to the youth of our community Activities and recent
special events include the following.
•	Youth can play pool, ping-pong and other games. Watch T V or just visit with each
other or the adult volunteers

•	Students can receive help with their homework from tutors Computers are available.
Life-skills programs are offered through the University of Missouri Extension.

•	Teen dances are held periodically

•	Culver-Stockton College students are involved with Center activities

•	Snacks and soda are available
How is the Youth Center funded?
Expenses for the Youth Center average S$500 a month This includes rent, phone, water,
gas and electric service Because the Center is funded by donations only, financial and
volunteer help are essential for the Center to survive Paying the monthly utilities is a
constant struggle, with little left over for upkeep or activities.

How can I help?
The future of the La Grange Youth Center depends on the support from the community.
The Center cannot remain open without support from caring people like you
•	Your tax-deductible financial support will keep the Center open and operating
An Annual Fund Drive is held each spring. During this time, Youth Center volunteers ask
for donations from the community. Money raised from the Annual Fund Drive is used
specifically for the Youth Centers operating expenses. (Occasional fundraisers, such as
spaghetti dinners, car washes and bake sales, help fund special programs and upkeep of
the Center
In addition, a fund-raising campaign for a new building is underway. The Center has been
housed in various rented buildings in La Grange, and we are currently housed in an old
church building. In recent years, we have felt an acute need for a new facility. Our building
project which is estimated to cost $177,000.00, was selected by the Missouri Department
of Economic Development for inclusion in the Youth Opportunities Tax Credit Program
(YOP). The program is NOT a direct grant program - we do not receive money directly
from the state. The Youth Center is responsible for obtaining the necessary donations, and
in return for any eligible donations, Missouri ~ tax credits will be issued to the donor Contact
the Youth Center for more information.
•	Your volunteer help is also needed Do you nave a couple of hours a week to help
supervise the Center? Could you help tutor a youth who needs help with homework?
Do you have a special talent that you could teach others? Could you simply stop by and
visit for a while?
Whatever support you can give, you will make a difference to our youth. If you have any
questions, comments or suggestions, please stop by the Youth Center today!
